The top academic students from four area schools were honored May 27th as the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce conducted its 49th Annual Academic Achievement Awards Dinner. The event took place at Carmen’s Country Inn and Gardens, Drums. Ms. Tiffany Veet, Deputy Director of Continuous Improvement at Sanofi was the keynote speaker.
Students chosen by their schools for exceptional academic achivemennt were honored at the dinner. Representing area high schools are the following students:

Representatives from each of the schools were on hand to make the presentations to the students from their respective schools. Each graduate being recognized received a certificate in recognition of their scholastic achievement from the Chamber and also certificates from Senator David Argall and Senator Linda Culver, State Representative Dane Watro and State Representative Jamie Walsh .
In addition to recognizing the top acadmeic achievers from the schools, two of the Chamber’s partners, the Greater Hazleton Civic Partnership and CANBE Innovation Center presented awards. Ms. Mia Lied Solan is the recipant of the 2025 Civic Partnership Technical Scholarship and Corey Buchman was presented with the 2025 Young Innovator of the Year. All the guests were entertained by the Weatlherly Area High School Chorus under the directon of Mr. Daniel Derflinger .
The event, made possible through contributions from area businesses, including American Eagle Outfitters, Hayden Power, Penn State Hazleton, Luzerne County Commuty College, Johnson College, Lackawanna College, and CanBe Innovation Center. “The Chamber is proud to be able to recognize the students who have excelled in school and have risen to the top of their class. These students serve as the primary examples of the quality of education available locally,” said Jennifer Barnesevich Vice Chair of of the Chamber’s Board of Directors who acted as Master of Ceremonices for the event.
Since its inception in 1975, the academic achievement program has honored close to three thousand high school students.
