The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Committee has announced their Twelfth Annual Human Resource Seminar. This seminar is geared toward anyone in the human resource field, as well as small to mid-size business owners or anyone else who is interested in learning more about the topics being offered. Four program topics include: “The Trump Presidency and Its Impact Upon Labor and Employment Law: Expectations and Speculations”, Opioid Addiction, Pitfalls in Plan Administration and Effective Performance Management.

The seminar is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 1st at Capriotti’s, One Banks Avenue in McAdoo from 9:15 am to 2:30 pm.

9:15 am to 9:30 am will begin check-in and registration. Then session one will run from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. The topic is “The Trump Presidency and Its Impact Upon Labor and Employment Law: Expectations and Speculations” and it will be presented by James P. Valentine, Esquire of Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald, LLC.

 

10:40 am to 11:40 am will begin session two: Opioid Addiction. This session will provide an understanding of what opiods and addiction are, how individuals can become addicted, the signs of addiction and what actions an employer can take regarding addiction in the workplace. It will be presented by Stephen J. Pakosh, Health & Training Specialist for the PA Dept of Labor & Industry/Bureau of Workers' Comp

11:40 am to 12:15 pm, lunch will be served and following lunch session three will begin,
Pitfalls in Plan Administration. This session will address pitfalls in the plan administration of an employee benefit plan including failure to recognize an ERISA plan, inconsistent and ambiguous documents, failure to satisfy notice requirements and business relationships with service providers. It will be presented by Frances K. Horn JD, PHR, Employee Benefits Compliance Officer for JRG Advisors, LLC/ChamberChoice.

The final session is from 1:25 pm to 2:25 pm and will be Effective Performance Management. In this session you will gain an understanding of how to incorporate the components of an effective performance management system into your organization. Performance management, when implemented correctly, can greatly improve communication and create positive performance outcomes. It will be presented by Stephanie Klatka, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Human Resources Consultant

This seminar has been pre-approved for 4.00 Recertification credit hours toward the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

“Our Human Resources Committee has been working very hard to get this 12th annual seminar underway and we anticipate an excellent turnout,” Leann Fallabel, Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce VP of Marketing and Coordinator of the Human Resource Committee.

The event is sponsored by Workforce Resources.

Cost to attend this seminar is $60.00 for Chamber members and $75.00 for Non-Chamber members. The registration fee includes breakfast and lunch.
