Coordinated Health CEO, Dr. Emil DiIoro to Speak at Breakfast Program

Coordinated Health CEO Dr. Emil DiIorio will address the business community on Tuesday, October 18th at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. The breakfast program will take place at The Pines Eatery & Spirits, downtown Hazleton.

The program will begin at 7:45 a.m. and conclude at 9:00 a.m. A full breakfast will be served at the upcoming breakfast program for a $20 fee for chamber members and a $25 fee for non-chamber members. Those who would like to attend should contact the chamber office at 570-455-1509 or register online at hazletonchamber.org by Friday, October 14th.

The Red Carpet programs are conducted monthly by the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce as a way of providing information to the local business community and offering new and expanded business networking opportunities.

Winners Announced for Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Business & Community Awards

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of their Annual 2016 Business and Community Awards. In an attempt to help promote October as “Chamber of Commerce” month, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will hold a special awards luncheon, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, to recognize the winners of the awards. The luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 27th at 11:45 am at Genetti Catering in Hazle Township. The cost of the luncheon is $25 per person. Reservations are required by Friday, October 21st by registering online, calling the Chamber at 455-1509 or emailing .

Chamber Announces Menu for their Upcoming Tastes of Greater Hazleton Event

Tastes of Greater Hazleton

The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce invites the public to attend the 9th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton, which will be held Sunday, October 16th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Health & Wellness Center at Hazleton located on 50 Moisey Drive in Hazle Township.

Event coordinators have announced that three cooking demonstrations will take place at the event and they will be provided by the Brass Buckle, Sand Springs Country Club and Top of the 80s Restaurant

According to Anna Jean Onuschak of Top of the 80s Restaurant, event chairwoman, “We are thrilled to feature these three very talented, local chefs and restaurant owners at our event. The attendees really look forward to seeing what they have to prepare and then having the chance to sample their dishes”

Anniversary Celebration Being Held for Long-Time Members of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce

Anniversary Membership CelebrationThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is kicking off October as Chamber of Commerce Month, and in doing so, they are holding an event to recognize several long-standing members who are celebrating a special anniversary with the organization in 2016. The 2nd Annual Anniversary Membership Celebration will take place on Thursday, October 6th. In addition to the businesses being recognized, as well as their employees, the entire Chamber membership is invited to attend. Chamber Woman’s Luncheon Program Open to ALL Business Woman from Throughout Greater Hazleton

womens lunch september resizedThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is holding their fifth in a series of woman’s networking luncheon programs for 2016, Tuesday, September 27th from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums. The event is open for any woman to attend.

The program will begin promptly at 12 noon and will include lunch. Guest speakers will be Cathy Colangelo from Partners In Education. She will discuss how you and your business can partner with area school students and educators and assist in developing your future workforce. She will talk about different programs Partners In Education offers including their annual Career Awareness Day, Project SAGE - Securing a Greener Environment (elementary and middle school gifted students in Hazleton Area and Weatherly); Attendance Matters Program and Job Shadowing opportunities. The British Invasion Experience, Monsters of Rock Highlight Funfest 2016 Entertainment Schedule

NewBIEPicCROP5Monsters of Rock PhotoFunfest will celebrate the superheroes of rock and roll when The British Invasion Experience and Monsters of Rock take to the festival’s Premier Stage at Broad and Wyoming streets during Funfest 2016 on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11. Once again, Funfest entertainment will be spread out all along Broad Street with performances at three locations: the Premier Stage, the Church Street Performance Area near the intersection of Church and Broad streets and Pocket Park Stage in between Laurel and Wyoming streets, right across from Funfest Headquarters, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce office.

The British Invasion Experience will perform Saturday from 5-7 p.m. The band, which is based out of Maryland, pays tribute to The Beatles from their introduction on the Ed Sullivan Show throughout their career, ending on the roof top of Abbey Road Studios. The group also performs well known hits from other British groups such as The Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Zombies, The Yard Birds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and many more, ending with the psychedelic era of such groups as Cream and Pink Floyd.

Funfest Car Show to feature classic cars, race cars

The 27th annual Funfest Car Show hits Hazleton’s main thoroughfare when car enthusiasts show off their prized wheels along Broad Street on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 3 p.m. 
All classic cars, motorcycles and trucks are eligible for the event. All vehicles must be street legal, licensed and insured.


In addition to the traditional classic car show, race car drivers from Evergreen Raceway will be on hand all day on Saturday with as many as five cars, one each from the modified, street stock, factory stock, four cylinder and kids wheel divisions. The cars will be on display between Church and Laurel streets and the public will be allowed to sit in the cars and take pictures.
The car show will maintain the popular format that was developed several years ago. A panel of judges will select the twenty best cars and each owner will receive a trophy. Although there are no classes, cars will be rated on overall appearance or presentation based on five categories typically evaluated in car shows. The judges will also select the “Best in Show” and a special trophy will be presented to the winner of that category. Prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the car show Saturday evening but entrants must be present to win.

136 local and regional golfers will tee off at 11:00 AM on Thursday for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at 11 am at Edgewood by Sand Springs in Drums, with registration beginning at 9 am, and will feature trophies, prizes and awards.

Chamber Golf Outing Set for August 18th Has Limited Space Available

Golf Outing & On-Course Business ExpoOnly a few openings remain for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing which will take place on Thursday, August 18th. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at Edgewood in Drums at 11 am.

Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, coffee, beverages and donuts prior to shotgun start, beginning at 9:30 am, on-course food, snacks and refreshments, cocktail and hors d' oeuvre reception immediately following the round of golf, buffet style dinner, hole in one contest, scoring, championship, first and second flight trophies, longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin awards, doorprizes for each golfer and more. Chamber Seeking Candidates for Annual Business & Community Awards

Business & Community AwardsThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominations for their 15th Annual Business & Community Awards. The awards are given each year in order to recognize individuals and businesses, which help to promote and support the Greater Hazleton Area.

Nominations are being accepted for: Small Business of the Year; Large Business of the Year, Rocco Colangelo, Sr. Volunteer of the Year, Pride of Place, Healthy Workplace of the Year, Green Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

A business or individual may be nominated for an award or they can nominate themselves. Once the nomination is received by the Chamber, the nominee will be notified and asked to complete an official application. The applications are reviewed and scored by a volunteer committee, and all winners will be recognized at a special luncheon program, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, to be held on Thursday, October 27th at 11:45 am Genetti’s in Hazleton.

Recently, the Chamber highlighted the premier sponsorship that is provided by Hazleton Automobile Trade Association. According to Downtown chairman Bill Spear, “We are extremely grateful for the Hazleton Automobile Trade Association’s support and commitment to assist us in highlighting our area through this very visible, family friendly event.” Spear continues, “Typically over 200 vehicles participate in the Cruise each year and we expect just as many, if not more, for this year’s event.”

The deadline of July 29th is approaching for the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking ninth annual Women’s Empowerment Grant. This grant was established to encourage women to pursue training or education that will help them start or advance a career. The target of the grant is women who are: currently working and want to advance in their career through education or training; returning to the workforce; and/or seeking to change their current career path and pursue something more in line with their
interests or passions. The grant is also intended to be available to those who would not necessarily have access to scholarships or grants. For this reason, graduating high school students will not be eligible to apply for the grant.

Cruise 2016 sponsorThe 2016 Downtown Hazleton Classic Car Cruise-In will take place in Downtown Hazleton on Friday, August 5th (rain date August 12th) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Cruise-In, coordinated by the Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, is sponsored by Hazleton Auto Trade Association. “The Hazleton Auto Trade Association is excited to partner with the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce for this year’s car cruise” stated Matt DePrimo of Barber Ford, president of the association. “Together the association members have had over 240 years of membership with the chamber. We understand the importance of a strong chamber in our community and look forward to the opportunity to bring a family friendly event that also represents a chance for us to showcase our individual businesses. On Cruise night, the classic vehicles enter at Church and Chestnut Streets (by the former Blue Comet Diner), make a left onto Laurel Street and then continue to Broad Street where they will immediately park between Cedar and Church Streets and will be available to the public for viewing until 9 p.m. Dash Plaques, compliments of Lehigh Tire Company, will be presented to the first 100 vehicles as well as goodie bags, donated by local businesses.

Chamber Launches Brand New Website to Better Serve Our Members

Chamber HomepageKeeping up the latest in internet technology, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce recently launched a newly designed website that is responsive for viewing on all of today’s devices, including popular tablets and smartphones.

The new site offers members and others updated information about Chamber and community events and a wealth of other information including membership, a directory of Chamber members and an online version of the Chamber’s most recent Image Book.

The new website was developed and designed by Precision Design, a Hazleton web design, marketing, advertising and public relations firm that has more than 20 years experience and more than 12 years representing the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.

Downtown Farmer’s Market Seeking New Vendors

The Downtown Hazleton Farmer's Market, soon to be kicking off its fifth year, is seeking new vendors to expand the diversity of market offerings. Previous year’s vendors have included Burger’s Farm, 2014 08 01 10.46.52O’Hara’s Orchard, The Good Hive (honey and honey-made products), Paula’s Patisserie, the Butler Township Community Garden (Growing Markets program), and Atomic Hog Pit BBQ. Featured food trucks and non-profit and educational institutions, including the PSU Master Gardeners and McCann School of Business have also participated in the past, whether offering ice cream, gardening workshops, or even free chair massages.

“It would be great if we could add some additional vendors this year,” said Chamber President Mary Malone, especially jam, jellies, juices, or even food trucks. Artists and crafters are also welcome.” The Chamber of Commerce operates the market with the support of the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress.

This year the market will again take place every Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, mid-July through early September. Vendor fees are only $50 for the season, which covers the city’s business license, plus whatever costs are associated with obtaining the vendor liability insurance. Vendors selling pre-packaged or ready to eat foods are also responsible for obtaining appropriate licensing/registration from the PA Department of Agriculture. Necessary forms and additional information can be found on the Alliance’s website

The market has been growing in popularity with local residents, downtown workers, and seniors who are eligible for Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers. This SFMNP was established in 2002 by the Federal and State Dept. of Agriculture to assist seniors in obtaining fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables and to increase sales and awareness of the farmers markets in the local area.

Chamber to Hold 11th Annual Human Resource Seminar

hr promo pic for webThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Committee has announced their Eleventh Annual Human Resource Seminar. This half day seminar consists of three sessions, two of which are breakout sessions where attendees can choose from two topics going on simultaneously, a keynote speaker, breakfast and lunch. This seminar is geared toward anyone in the human resource field, as well as small to mid-size business owners or anyone else who is interested in learning more about the topics being offered. The seminar is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 2nd on the 4th Floor of the Hazleton Campus of Luzerne County Community College located at 100 W. Broad Street in Downtown Hazleton. The seminar will run from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm.

may luncheon promoThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is holding their third in a series of woman’s networking luncheon programs for 2016 Tuesday, May 24th from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Ovalon Restaurant in Hazleton. The event is being sponsored by Lawn Specialties and it is open for any woman to attend.

The program will begin promptly at 12 noon and will include a buffet style lunch. 12TH ANNUAL ICEBREAKER GOLF OUTING HOLE ASSIGNMENTS ANNOUNCED

The 12th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Icebreaker Golf Outing will take place this Friday, April 29 at the Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf. The buffet lunch and registration for golfers begins at 11 am. The outing is a two-person scramble with shotgun start at 12 p.m.

Awards will be given immediately following the round of golf for championship and first and second flights and special awards will be longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.

CHAMBER ELECTS DONNA BARNA CHAIR AND WELCOMES NEW DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS

donnabarnaDonna Barna was elected as the volunteer Chair of the Board of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce at a reorganization meeting of the organization in early April. Allen Wagner will serve as Immediate Past Chairman and Mary R. Malone will serve as President of the organization.

Ms. Barna, the President of Billig-Helmes Insurance Agency, is the 5th generation of a family-owned insurance agency operating in the Hazleton Area since 1902. She serves as a director on the CAN DO Board, Hazleton Public Library and both Hazleton Rotary Club and Foundation to name a few. Donna was elected to the Chamber Board in 2012, and has a Vice Chair, leading the activities of the Community Awareness Committee since 2014. She has been very active in the successful development and growth of Women's Networking committee as well.

Chamber Hosting 12th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing

Icebreaker promoThe Valley Country Club will be the site of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 12th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing. Geisinger is the premiere sponsor for the event. 

The outing is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 29th with an 11am luncheon and a 12 noon tee off. Registration, which is $75 per player and includes a buffet lunch, round of golf with cart, and a drink voucher after the round of play.

Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Announces Twentieth Annual Community Reading Day on April 28th

readingCommunity Reading Day helps to promote literacy and encourage life-long reading and imagination with our next generation. That’s the message the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is sending through its partnership in the 20th annual Community Reading Day program, supported by Penn State Hazleton. This event will be held on April 28th beginning at 9:30 a.m. in first and second grade classrooms in the Hazleton Area School District, Holy Family Academy and chamber member preschools.
