County Commissioners to be Featured at Chamber Breakfast PDF Print E-mail
Luzerne County Commissioners Maryanne Petrilla, Thomas G. Cooney, and Stephen Urban will address the Hazleton Area business community later this month during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Legislative Update series of Red Carpet Breakfasts. The program is sponsored by KNBT, a division of North Penn Bank.

The program will take place from 7:45 AM to 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 26th at Sand Springs Country Club in Drums.

Dr. Deb Carr Selected as Chamber's 2010 Athena Recipient PDF Print E-mail
Dr. Deb Carr, Director of Curriculum & Instruction for the Hazleton Area School District, has been selected dr._carr.jpgas the recipient of the 2010 Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, sponsored by Berger Family Dealerships.

The Award, presented each year to a Hazleton Area businesswoman "for outstanding professional achievement," will be presented at the 118th Annual Meeting of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.  The dinner meeting will take place on Thursday, May 20th at the Genetti Best Western Inn & Suite Hall of Presidents.

Chamber's 118th Annual Dinner and Executive Business Exposition May 20th PDF Print E-mail
Reservations are due for the 118th Annual Dinner of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.  The dinner program, which will feature an Exclusive Executive Business Exposition, and an update on the activities of the local business organization will take place on Thursday, May 20th at the Genetti Best Western Inn and Suites.

According the Chamber President Donna Palermo,  the dinner will provide an opportunity for local business officials and their guests to combine business with pleasure while hearing about the progress of the Chamber during the past year, and mixing with the leaders of the Hazleton Area business community.

The evening will feature the Annual Executive Business Exposition which highlights businesses in the Greater Hazleton Area.  Each year since its inception in 1992 the Executive Business Expo has attracted sell out crowds of participating firms.  The Expo takes place in conjunction with the Chamber's pre-dinner reception and provides participants and attendees with an informal way to combine the social benefits of the evening, with the opportunity to see some of the goods and services available through local business.

Chamber to Host Legislative Trip PDF Print E-mail
Officials and members from the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will venture to Harrisburg on Tuesday, June 22nd for an update on legislative issues facing Pennsylvania's business community. The group will leave the Chamber offices at 10 a.m. and leave the Capitol building at 3:00 p.m.

The one-day visit is being hosted by Representative Todd A. Eachus and will feature a series of meetings with various officials with first-hand knowledge of the Commonwealth's legislative priorities.

The field trip will begin with a complimentary lunch courtesy of Rep. Eachus.  Following lunch the local delegation will join officials from the Rendell administration to discuss issues in their fields of expertise.

Chamber-members wishing to participate should contact the Chamber office (455-1509) by Friday, June 11th. Cost of the trip is $40 per person which covers the cost of the transportation.  The Legislative Field Trips are an annual activity of the Chamber's Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Angeline Yenchko.
 
May Chamber Mixer Set for Tuesday, May 4th PDF Print E-mail
The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce invites all chamber member businesses, their employees dscf5142.jpgand their guests to attend a special networking mixer. The mixer is sponsored by the Heritage Hill Senior Community and it is being hosted by Top of the 80’s, 3 Top of the 80’s in Hazleton.

The mixer will take place this Tuesday, May 4th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Chef Drew will be serving a wide array of hors d ‘oeuvres. A cash bar will be available and door prizes will be raffled off.

Chamber Icebreaker Golf Outing Winners Announced PDF Print E-mail
The two-man team comprised of players from First National Bank with team members Joe Baran and Tom championship_and_first_flight_winners.jpgEvanko took the Chamber’s Charmpionship flight award during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 6th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing Friday, April 30th at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville.

Other winners in the tournament were: First Flight Winners representing First Columbia Bank & Trust, Elizabeth Hittle and Colleen Liddick.  Second Flight winners representing DeAngelo Brothers, Inc. included Bill Patterson and John Hogan. Closest to the Pin Awards were won by John Bodin and Jim Cannon.  

The premier sponsor for the event was Geisinger. Distinguished sponsors included  DeAngelo Brothers, American Abstractors at Eagle Rock Resort, Executive Cleaning and Supply, Bank of America Home Loans, Cross Valley Federal Credit Union, Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Hometown Nursing & Rehab and Kavlick Enterprises/McDonalds.
 
Chamber Thanks Volunteer Readers PDF Print E-mail
Community Reading Day was held in the Greater Hazleton Area, Wednesday, April 28th, and scores of crd_dr._rowena_dejesus.jpglocal volunteers joined their counterparts from throughout the entire region in a community partnership designed to promote literacy in the area. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce coordinated the event locally and was sponsored by Bank of America.  Linda Mantush, marketing assistant for the Chamber, coordinated the event.

More than five dozen volunteers from all walks of life in the Hazleton Area spent upwards of 30 minutes and more reading to first and second grade students in schools throughout the region and the Chamber wishes to thank not only those individual readers, but the many businesses who allowed their employees to spend part of their morning reading to the children in schools in the Hazleton Area School District, Parochial School system, and Head Start programs.

 Officials from the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce announced that over 1,700 people volunteersgottstein2.jpg for this year’s "Great Pennsylvania Cleanup” campaign, which took place throughout Greater Hazleton this past Saturday, April 24th.  Chamber president Donna Palermo states, “Once again, the Greater Hazleton community came out in force to help rid the area of litter and debris, and we thank them for their volunteer efforts.  Our hope is that it provides an example for others to follow, and more importantly, to serve as a reminder to those people who abuse our environment by throwing litter on our area roadways, playgrounds and greenspaces to refrain from those unfavorable habits.”

Volunteers Ready for Great PA Cleanup THIS Saturday PDF Print E-mail
greatpacleanupweb.jpgOfficials from the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce announced today that over 1700 volunteers are ready to participate in the "Great Pennsylvania Cleanup” campaign, scheduled to take place in the Greater Hazleton Area this Saturday, April 24th.  Chamber president Donna Palermo states, “Once again, the Greater Hazleton community is coming out in force to help rid the area of litter and debris, and we thank them for their volunteer efforts.  Our hope is that it provides an example for others to follow, and more importantly, to serve as a reminder to those people who abuse our environment by throwing litter on our area roadways, playgrounds and greenspaces to refrain from those disgusting habits.”  Travelers are being asked to be very cautious when driving around the Greater Hazleton Area this Saturday and throughout the following week, due to the number of volunteers participating in the cleanup effort.
