Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce

The Broad St. Corridor project is progressing nicely according to Patty Fritsky, PennDOT, and project manager. The new updated schedule has been released showing the progression of anticipated work until the project completion in 2013. West Hazleton will see curb and sidewalks completed from St. Francis to Madison Ave, and from Winters Ave. to Diamond Ave. (right side only) this year.  Hazleton will see curbs and sidewalks completed from Diamond Ave. along the Hazleton Shopping Center all the way to East St. near the Hospital (right side only). Drainage work will continue throughout the upcoming winter months (weather permitting) along the left side of the project.  Slusser Brothers has begun the complicated work at Poplar St. and Broad St. to eliminate the existing roadway bifurcation and expect to close Poplar St. at the intersection of Broad Street to all traffic starting July 25th. Expected closure is to last 2 weeks. The Terrace section is starting to look like a completed project and final pavement should take place this October. The first new traffic signals are scheduled to be installed this October and will follow along with the completed sidewalk and curb work.

PennDOT has received many positive comments and are pleased with all the cooperation they are getting with everyone on this project.  The individuals are seeing the "big picture" and working together as a community to try and keep the project moving along as quickly as possible.
