Dining in Greater Hazleton PDF Print E-mail

thumb_dining.jpgGreater Hazleton boasts a buffet of restaurants and taverns – each with a menu of scrumptious local favorites and well-known dishes done just right. Whether it’s a quiet dinner with family or upscale dining with friends in an elegant atmosphere, our restaurants will satisfy your appetite.

For ethnic dishes, gourmet meals, quick bites or late-night snacking, try Damon’s, the Hollywood Diner, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar or Bonanza. Regional hot spots serve up a yummy alternative to national chains. You’ll feel like you’re dining at the top of the world when you enter the dining room of Top of the 80’s, which overlooks the beautiful Conyngham Valley. Other must-eat places include Basile's Italian Restaurant, Angelo’s, Bobby's of New York, The Lookout House, Brother Bruno's, Dragonfly Cafe, Buon Appetito, Frankie's Restaurant and Mea’s.

With more than two dozen pizzerias locally, pizza is a specialty in Greater Hazleton. Besides the big chains, we also have many, many small shops where family recipes have been handed down from generation to generation. Greater Hazleton is well-known for its Americanized ethnic foods, like Sicilian and Neapolitan pizza, calzones, stromboli, pierogies, potato pancakes, blintzes, stews, gyros, funnel cakes, and so much more.

Hazleton has two nationally known bakeries that specialize in cold "pitza," an interesting twist on an old Italian favorite. Another Hazleton tradition can be found downtown, where Jimmy's Quick Lunch has been serving up loaded hot dogs in a diner atmosphere for decades. Jimmy's hot dogs have a reputation far beyond Greater Hazleton.

And the ethnic food is first class at our Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Indian and Thai eateries.

There are far too many restaurants to list here, but a visit to just about any Greater Hazleton dining spot will assure you that most of them deserve at least a mention, if not a banner. From the small delicatessens and quaint cafes and coffee shops all the way up to the top of the food chain, you'll get a taste of what it means to live in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
