The purpose of this letter is to inform you that several government agencies are now accepting grant applications that may be of interest to you.  As you may know, with my support, Congress appropriates funding to federal and state agencies that primarily award these funds through competitive solicitations.  In an effort to make you aware of some of these opportunities, I wanted to bring the below solicitations to your attention.

Short Description:  As part of a new approach by the U.S. Department of Energy to decrease American dependence on carbon emitting fossil fuels, this funding opportunity will focus on increasing the nation's wind energy capacity.  Recent reports have indicated that there exists a midsize (power rating of 100kW through 1MW) wind turbine scarcity that if addressed could support a variety of applications.  This program is designed to support the development of midsize wind turbines by awarding grants to domestic entities or partnerships who have existing detailed design plan specifications, and a developed prototype, for a midsize turbine.

Short Description:  As one of two new Solid-State Lighting (SSL) programs offered by DOE, this program is designed to support projects that focus on using the knowledge gained from basic or applied research to develop or improve commercially viable material, devices, or systems.  SSL has the potential to save a significant amount of energy over the next twenty years.  This program is designed to develop or improve commercially viable materials, devices, or systems for solid-state lighting general illumination applications.

Short Description:  This program is designed to support new approaches to accelerate the commercialization of clean energy technologies developed at universities.  DOE has indicated that applications should (1) propose a strategy to foster an entrepreneurial environment, (2) provide a description of the proposed innovation ecosystem, and (3) describe a specific implementation plan.

Short Description:  The Choice Neighborhood Program will build on the success of HUD's Hope VI program that revitalized communities with distressed public housing.  This new pilot program will introduce a more comprehensive approach to community development by awarding funding to public housing authorities, local governments, and nonprofit organizations to link housing revitalization with education reform and early childhood education.
