The top academic students in five area high schools were honored Thursday, June 11th at the 35th Annual Academic Achievement Banquet coordinated by the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.
The program recognized the scholastic achievements of students from Hazleton Area, Immanuel Christian School, Marian Catholic High School, MMI Preparatory School, and Weatherly Area High School.
Students recognized at the event were (Hazleton Area): John Bachman, Anastasia Baran. Ashley Boehmer, Tanya Cheeseman, Donna Chen, David Chippi, Jaclyn DeLauretis, Tiffany Dempsey, Andrew Dominick, Corey Doyle, Matthew Drumheller, Nadine Drumn, Sarah Farley, Sarah Goodreau, Kayla Hartz, Harpreet Kaur, John Keegan V, Rebecca Miller, Julia Notaro, Jacqueline Phillips, Alyssa Rodzewich, Grant Rowlands, Amanda Sissock, Aimee Sitch, Samantha Spishock, Kayleigh Streit, James Van Horn, Vanessa Velez, DeAnna Yarbrough, and Ariel Zablocki.
(Immanuel Christian School): Caleb Boston and Robert Weldon.
(Marian Catholic): Amanda Cuth , Melissa Ervin, Beth Ann Grega, Nickolas Julian, Erin Litsch, Patrick Martino, Bernadette Mick, Janine Patton, Patrick Smith, Alexander Valente, and Dwight Weaver.
(MMI): Niklas Anthony, Katrina Enright, William Hood, Kristyn Lizbinski, Daniel Migatulski, Kelci Scirrotto, Jonathan Senczakowicz, Traci Smith, Jan Wessel, and Adam Wisniewski.
(Weatherly Area): Amanda Bartosevich, Paige Corra, Kim Gatski , Josette Genetti, Tara Hadzick, Alyson Hoegg, Caitlyn Koloski, Sarah Lech, Kelly Medico, Heather Polchin, and Brianna Vento.
Since its inception, the program has honored over sixteen hundred of
the region’s top students and remains the only program of its kind in
Northeastern Pa. It is coordinated by the Greater Hazleton Chamber of
Commerce and sponsored through financial contributions from the local
business and civic community as well as from individual contributions.
Those who contributed to the success of this year’s event included:
Bemis Company Inc., Best Western Genetti Inn & Suites, Blasko’s
Candies, CrossRoads Computers, Dr. Edgar L. Dessen, The Hershey
Company, Highway Equipment & Supply Co., William L. Morse, Jr.,
John M. Nonnemacher, CPA, PPL Corporation, and Wal-Mart.
According to Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Vice Chair, Atty.
Elizabeth Maguschak, “These contributions from the community, make it
possible for us to host these students and provide them with a unique
momento of the evening, and of their scholastic achievement. “ In
addition to special certificates presented by the Chamber, each
participant also received special recognition from State Senator
Raphael Musto and Representative Todd Eachus.
The Academic Awards program is organized with the cooperation of the
school officials from each of the High Schools involved. Participating
in this year’s presentations were Rocco Petrone, Hazleton Area, Frank
Victor, Weatherly Area, Tom G. Hood, MMI, Kelly Knowlden, Immanuel
Christian School and Maureen McNally, Marian Catholic High School.
Also serving on the planning committee, in addition to Atty. Maguschak,
was Donna Palermo, President of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of
Commerce and Joseph Yannuzzi of CrossRoads Computers, a Chamber Past
Chairman.
In addition to the Academic Achievement awards, Jack St. Pierre,
chairman of the Greater Hazleton Area Civic Partnership Scholarship
committee, presented two scholarship awards to Karl Leitner and Aimee
Sabol.
Speaker for the evening was Wally Iffert, Integral Investment Group.
Musical entertainment was provided by student musicians from Hazleton
Area High School consisting of Nick Rudenko, Mike Hoilko, Brennan
Lagan, Shawna Protchko, Stephanie Latella, and Donna Yocum. The
invocation and benediction was provided by Rev. Jim DeRamus of
Apostolic Faith Church.
The Annual Academic Awards program is coordinated under the auspices of
the Chamber’s Community Affairs committee, in cooperation with the
administration and principals from each of the school districts
involved.
