The second annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton, held Sunday, October 19th at Holy Family Academy, saw a record crowd of 350 according to committee chairman, Allen Wagner. According to Mr. Wagner, “We were overwhelmed and pleased with the terrific turnout for this year’s event. It surpassed all of our expectations and we actually had to turn people away at the door. We are truly thankful for the support of the Hazleton area restaurants for participating in this event. This is exactly the reason our committee decided to hold this event; to showcase the many fine dining facilities and businesses that we have right here in Greater Hazleton!” Mr. Wagner continued, “We couldn’t have asked for a better participation from the restaurants and thank the hundreds of people who turned out to sample the many fine dishes that the restaurants prepared. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the entire Community Awareness committee for all of their hard work in planning this event, and to Stan Pavlik at Holy Family Academy for hosting us again this year.”
The event featured a sampling of signature dishes and products from seventeen restaurants and businesses from throughout Greater Hazleton. Samples included: Top of the 80’s Restaurant, trio of bruschetta including steak bruschetta, shrimp and white bean bruschetta and vegetarian bruschetta; Brass Buckle, providing a “tastes of Mexico” along with flan and mockaritas; Cerullo’s Custom Creations, cold cut hoagies; Jentastic Sweets, chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter mousse, vanilla buttercream and chocolate fondant as well as banana cake with white chocolate mousse, vanilla buttercream and vanilla fondant; Ron Jaworski’s Edgewood in the Pines, cheesecake lollipops; Famosa Restaurant, tyrolean knidley (bread dumpling with meat); The Lookout House, crab cutlets; Louie Red’s Philly Style Cheesesteaks & More, buffalo style chicken on a roll and homemade macroni and cheese; URS Catering Connection, haluski; T. A top concern for business owners is the rising cost of energy. To help local businesses save money and mitigate increases, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has, through its partnership with ChamberChoice, enlisted the services of OnDemand Energy to create an aggregated buying pool. The pool will buy electricity in bulk for a fixed time period as a way to lock in a lower price for businesses that are chamber members and participating in the pool. Businesses who are not currently a Chamber member are encouraged to attend an upcoming seminar scheduled for Thursday, October 22nd at 8:00 a.m. at the Chamber office to learn more about the program and about joining the Chamber to take advantage of this cost-saving program.
