As has been widely reported and discussed, Mayor Lou Barletta has proposed a plan to deal with the City of Hazleton’s financial deficit. A major aspect of this proposal is the sale of the Hazleton City Authority.
The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce would like your opinions regarding this proposal. Please take a few minutes to answer the following survey.

Now that electrical rate caps have expired within PPL’s territory, industries of all sizes across northeastern Pennsylvania are looking for ways to lower electricity costs in both the short and long terms.
CAN DO Energy Solutions, which helps companies achieve meaningful energy solutions, will bring together a world-class panel of experts to discuss energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions, rebates and tax credits, PPL’s energy efficiency rebate program for commercial and industrial businesses (Act 129), how to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, return on investment and other critical topics during a seminar on Wednesday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
The seminar is also sponsored by the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry and PPL Electric Utilities and H.T. Lyons.
All sessions include not only generalized topic areas but also real-world, practical applications already completed or begun by local companies. Each session is moderated by an industry expert in energy efficiency, alternative power purchase, solar power, financing (grants and loans) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for new and existing buildings.
Representatives from commercial and industrial businesses across northeastern Pennsylvania are encouraged to attend.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Collette Vacations and AAA Travel Agency will be providing a seminar for chamber members, family members, employees and the general public, an opportunity to join the Chamber on a tour of Tuscany, Italy in October 2010. The trip will take place from October 7th through October 16th, 2010. Trip highlights will include ten days, thirteen meals, eight breakfasts and five dinners. The group will tour Rome, Assisi, Basilica of St. Francis, Montecatini Terme, Siena, San Gimignao, Winery Tour, Florence, Tuscan Feast and Pitti Palace.
According to marketing committee chair, Gary Danish, “The Chamber will be conducting a free informational seminar to learn the complete details of the trip. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the trip is welcome to attend the seminar on Tuesday, April 20th from 6 pm to 7 p.m. at the Chamber offices at Citiscape, 20 W. Broad Street, Downtown Hazleton. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a ChamberChoice/OnDemand energy seminar for this month which will take place on Thursday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Chamber offices.
According to Donna Palermo, Chamber President, “This seminar will explain our ChamberChoice energy program and how it can benefit your company and your employees”. Palermo further states, “There is no charge to participate in this pool which now comprises eighteen chambers of commerce. We encourage everyone, members and non-members alike, to take advantage of this program and attend our seminar. If for some reason a business cannot attend the seminar but are still interested in completing an application, please contact the Chamber office and we can fax, email or mail the necessary paperwork to your place of business.
The process is extremely simple: (1)Request an application from the Chamber; (2) complete the application and fax it, along with two most recent PPL electric bills; (3) OnDemand Energy, our Chamber partner, will contact you with your potential savings; (4) Decide if you would like to sign the official contract to be included in the program.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting registrations for a 10 Hour OSHA Certification Training class for Construction Safety and Health / 29CFR1926 Standards. It will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, April 28th and 29th. The course will be facilitated by Joseph A. Thomas, ASC, CPOSH, AOT (RMEC-002096). He is a Safety/Risk Director at Innovative Employer Solutions.
All attendees, upon completion of the required hours, will receive their OSHA certification card. This class is recommended for the following individuals to attend: construction workers, construction supervisors, managers and foreman, maintenance department supervisors and managers; maintenance department personnel and any other individual interested in obtaining this certification.
