Funfest was established in 1979 by a committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce. It started as a community fair and parade, and in its history has grown to become the largest event of its kind in Luzerne County, attracting some 100,000 people to Downtown Hazleton each year. Funfest remains a committee of the Hazleton Chamber. It boasts some 40 volunteer committee members, who plan the event throughout the year, then operate it during Funfest Weekend. Chamber staff oversee the planning. Funfest Weekend is made up of many different activities of interest to all ages and tastes. There’s free entertainment at four venues, a classic car show, one of the largest craft shows in the East, a street fair, and of course, the giant Funfest Parade, featuring giant helium balloons. Funfest also has a special section just for kids, Senior Activities, and a night for Teen Activities. There are also hot wings and chili competitions and fireworks! And when you come to Funfest, you pay NO admission and parking is free!Funfest is a terrific way to end your summer. It is a family celebration, and it also serves as a fundraiser for many charitable organizations. |
