The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, and awards luncheon sponsor, Luzerne County Community College, has announced the winners of their 2008 Business and Community Awards.
Winning the Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Comfort Keepers is Physical Therapy Specialists. The purpose of the award is to show appreciation and recognition to a small business in the Greater Hazleton Area and promote the importance of small businesses to the economy and welfare of the entire community. Eligible applicants included any Chamber member business that has no more than 50 full-time employees and is located in the Greater Hazleton area. Judging was based on staying power, growth, community contribution, and overall management philosophy.
The Large Business of the Year Award, sponsored by George J. Hayden Electric-Communications was won by Network Solutions. The purpose of the award is to show appreciation and recognition to a large business in the Greater Hazleton and promote the importance of large businesses to the economy and welfare of the community. Eligible applicants included any Chamber member business that has more than 50 full-time employees and is located in the Greater Hazleton Area. Judging was based on staying power, growth, community contribution, and overall management philosophy.

The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce is holding an event entitled Tastes of Greater Hazleton. The event will feature a sampling of signature dishes and products from fourteen restaurants and businesses from throughout Greater Hazleton. It is open to the public and will take place on Sunday, October 19th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm in the Holy Family Academy (former Bishop Hafey High School) auditorium. 1700 W. 22nd Street in Hazleton.
Participating restaurants and businesses include: Brass Buckle, Cerullo’s Custom Creations, Jentastic Sweets, Ron Jaworski’s Edgewood in the Pines, Famosa Restaurant, Ground Round, Heritage Fresh Food, The Lookout House, Louie Red’s Philly Style Cheesesteaks & More, URS Catering Connection, Arthur’s Fresh Italian Grill & Wine Bar at the Ramada Inn, Scatton’s Restaurant, T. Verrastro Beer Distributor and The Clubhouse Restaurant at Eagle Rock.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce recently participated in several ribbon cutting ceremonies.
A ribbon cutting and grand opening was held Wednesday, September 17th for Building Blocks Learning Center located on N. Broad Street in West Hazleton. The location was formerly Burger King and was completely renovated to serve as a Day Care and Learning Center.
Stephanie’s Greens N Things also held a special ribbon cutting ceremony and grand re-opening on Wednesday, September 17th to announce the company’s move into a new and expanded location located at 6 N. Broad Street, West Hazleton.
And finally, on Friday, September 19th ARC Electric recently opened their new Wire Guys Generator Store located at 1515 N. Warren Street in West Hazleton.

Frankie’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, located at 37 N. Wyoming Street, Downtown Hazleton, was the recent recipient of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce “Downtown Pride” award for the month of August. The award is coordinated through the Chamber’s Downtown Committee. Frankie’s was recognized for the fine example that they have set in addressing the cleanliness of the Downtown Area and for renovations on their property.
