The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Committee has announced their Eight Annual Human Resource Seminar. This half day seminar consists of three sessions and attendees will choose from two topics in each session, plus a keynote speaker, continental breakfast and lunch. This seminar is geared toward Human Resource professionals, as well as small to mid-size business owners, assistant, middle or general managers or supervisors. The seminar is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 6th on the 4th Floor of the Hazleton Campus of Luzerne County Community College located at 100 W. Broad Street in Downtown Hazleton. The seminar will run from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm.

Participants will have the opportunity to choose from two topics for each of the three one-hour breakout sessions. Session one topics include Update on Human Resource Laws presented by McNees Wallace & Nurick, LLC or The Emerging Workforce, a discussion of a 15 year employment trend survey regarding the relationship between the employee and the employer presented by Spherion. Session two topics include Changes in the PA Unemployment Compensation Law and How it Affects Employers presented by PA Dept of Labor & Industry Workforce Development Representative or How to Tap into your Employees Talent: The Human Age - a new economic reality in which talent, not technology or even access to materials or capital, is the greatest determinant of competitive advantage to winning in the world of work presented by Manpower. Session three topics include OSHA’S New Hazard Communication Standard presented by an OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist or Employee Handbooks Overview presented by The Seltzer Group.

Attend to hear all about the exciting plans for the facility and enjoy guided tours of the building. All chamber member businesses and guests are invited to attend this special networking mixer. The mixer is being hosted and sponsored by the Hazleton One Community Center, Hazleton Integration Project, Inc.

The mixer will take place on Friday, May 24^th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. and will include complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and adult beverages.

Chamber President Donna Palermo was recently recognized by MTC/Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums as  “Community Supporter of the Year”.  The 2013 Celebrating Excellence award was presented to Ms. Palermo by Ross Valenti, Community Relations Director for KJCC at a recent Chamber meeting.  Mr. Valenti noted not only the support that Mrs. Palermo provides to the Job Corps Center but to the entire Greater Hazleton community at large. 

The two-man team comprised of Eric Grenkevich and Mario Pedriani from Century 21 Berstein Real Estate took the Chamber’s Charmpionship flight award during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 9th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing Friday, April 26th at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountaintop.

Other winners in the tournament were: First Flight Winners representing Unique Paving Materials, Michael Ball and Robert Grow.  Second Flight winners representing Workforce Resources, Jamie Horwath and Allen Culp. Longest Drive award was won by Josh Morgan. And longest putt award and closest to the pin awards were won by Matt Schifano.
