The Hazleton Area Public Library located at 55 N. Church Street,
Downtown Hazleton, recently received the “Downtown Pride” award
from the Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of
Commerce.
The award, initiated to help address the issue of cleanliness
in the Downtown area, was the fourth such award presented by the
committee. The award was initiated to recognize the efforts of
individual businesses that set an example of pride in conducting
a business in the Downtown area.
Donna Palermo, president of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce,
states, “We are asking that every businessperson make the
effort to, at least each Monday of the week, go out and pick up
the litter and debris around their place of business. And,
if the building next door to your business is vacant, to clean
that area as well. Working together, we can make a difference
in the cleanliness of the Downtown area.”
The Chamber’s Downtown Committee meets the first Tuesday
of each month, while the Downtown Promotion committee meets on
the last Tuesday of each month. Both meetings begin at 8:00
a.m. in the Chamber’s offices located in the CAN DO Building
on the corner of Broad and Church Streets. All are welcome
and encouraged to attend the meetings.
For more information on any of these activities, contact the Chamber
office at 455-1508.
