Tunnessen's Auto Parts to Sponsor Downtown Car Cruise

Thanks to a title sponsorship by Tunnessen’s Auto Parts, the Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will conduct their Sixth Annual Downtown Car Cruise on Friday, August 3rd  from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Expanding on the success of last year’s event, which saw nearly 300 classic vehicles, this year’s event looks to be even bigger and better.  Dash plaques sponsored The Anthracite Region of The Antique Automobile Club of America (A.A.C.A.), plus goodie bags, will be presented to the first 200 cars. Each Cruiser will also receive a ticket for a chance to win special donated prizes from Downtown businesses.

Also, once again this year, a pre-event display of new cars through the Hazleton Automobile Trades Association will begin at Noon on the sidewalks of Broad Street and remain throughout the evening.  In addition, local businesses are encouraged to remain open and conduct business throughout the evening.

The committee encourages downtown businesses to remain open during the Cruise and to conduct merchant’s sales, either on the sidewalks or directly in their stores.

According to Downtown Chairman, Bill Spear, “We are extremely grateful to Tunnessen’s Auto Parts for their generous contribution to this event.  It is with sponsorship monies that we are able to expand our event”.  Jim Grohol, chairman of the Car Cruise Committee also commended the Hazleton Automobile Trades Association for their involvement.  Grohol states, “Members of the Association, Barber Ford, Berger Family Dealerships, Fairway Motors,  Harry’s U Pull It, Independence Toyota, and Tunnessen’s Inc. will again display cars on the sidewalks of downtown Hazleton beginning at Noon.  The Association’s sponsorship monies will allow the committee to advertise the event in a greater capacity, plus the exposure will assist them in promoting their vehicles.  We thank them for their involvement again in this year’s Cruise.”

Grohol further states, “We have also invited local car clubs to set up a display to promote their organization as well.  We encourage the Car Clubs to take advantage of this marketing opportunity for their organization”.

To accommodate the Car Cruise, Broad Street will be blocked off to local traffic until 9:00 p.m.

Downtown merchants, and others, are being asked for items to be placed in “goodie” bags for the participants.  These items can be pens, keychains, cents off coupons, etc. to promote their business.  Items should be provided to the Chamber office no later than July 27th.

In addition, a special advertising campaign is being coordinated by the downtown merchants and businesses and the Standard Speaker.  If you would like to become part of this special advertising, call the Standard Speaker at 455-3636 as soon as possible.

The Cruise this year will include an expanded cruise route to accommodate the many vehicles that are expected to attend.  In addition, new for the first time will be live entertainment with The Legends, an oldies band, will perform between Pine and Cedar Streets, near Jimmy’s Quick Lunch.  Also, WAZL will be broadcasting live with DJ Tony Pacelli and DJ Jim Dino will also be providing music throughout the evening.

The public is encouraged to attend.  Bring your chairs to enjoy the Cruise and take advantage of the entertainment and many businesses that will remain open until 9:00 p.m.
