Chamber Downtown Committee planning special events
The Downtown Promotions Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber
of Commerce met recently to discuss several upcoming events in
Downtown Hazleton.
Committee members discussed the upcoming Easter Holiday promotion
stating that all downtown businesses are encouraged to participate
in the promotion. Each business is being asked to place a jar of
jellybeans on their counter tops. Individuals visiting their business
will have an opportunity to guess how many jellybeans are in the
jars. A winner who guesses the amount of jellybeans will
be provided with a prize of at least $10.00. The winners
will be announced at a special event on March 31st in the Citiscape
Lobby of the Markle Building where FREE photos with the Easter
Bunny will be taken for children ages 11 years old and under. In
addition to the free photos, Printmark Industries will provide
a prize for each child. The event will take place from 10:00
a.m. to 12:00 Noon.
A special advertising promotion will also take place in the Sunday,
March 25th Standard-Speaker in cooperation with the downtown promotions
event. Call 455-3636 to participate.
Bill Spear, Downtown Committee Chairman, also reminded the committee
that the Chamber of Commerce would, once again be coordinating
the Great PA Cleanup on Saturday, April 21st. All downtown
businesses are encouraged to sign up to participate in this event. Spear
stated, “As part of the committee’s Downtown Pride
effort, this is an excellent way to cooperate in the annual State
cleanup effort coordinated by the Chamber. If everyone takes
just thirty minutes out of their morning to cleanup the litter
and debris from around their business, it would make a dramatic
affect on the cleanliness of the downtown area.”
Mr. Spear announced that the winner of the Downtown Pride Award
for December was Metallo’s Formalwear/Spotless Cleaners. January’s
winner was CAN DO, Inc.
Also being planned again for this year, is the sixth annual Downtown
Hazleton Car Cruise. The Cruise will take place on Friday,
August 3rd and will once, again, be sponsored by Tunnessen’s
Inc.
Mr. Spear also reminded downtown merchants that the Downtown Committee
meets twice a month, the first Tuesday of the month and the last
Tuesday of the month at 8:00 a.m. All are encouraged to attend.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 6th at 8:00
a.m. in the Chamber offices, located in the CAN DO Building, Broad
and Church Streets, Downtown Hazleton. Robert Dougherty,
City Engineer, will attend the meeting and will provide an update
on City projects.
