Welcome to Greater Hazleton. We invite you to relax and make yourself
at home.
You really can do that here in Greater Hazleton. You can
relax and make yourself at home.
We
have a lot to offer - an outstanding quality of life, plenty of
recreational opportunities, a low crime rate, an inexpensive cost
of living, excellent health care and education systems, solid employment
opportunities, an outstanding business climate, and so much more.
Greater Hazleton has it all, including a great location. In the
foothills of the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania,
we're close to numerous major interstate highways that link us with
places from New York City to San Francisco, from Canada to the Gulf
of Mexico, and everything in between.
We're only two and a half hours away from New York City, less than
that from Philadelphia, and slightly more from Baltimore and Washington,
D.C. We like to feel we are in the middle of everywhere.
We do have a great location and access, but we've retained most
of the advantages of small-town life. Our crime rate, for example,
is eighth lowest in the nation. We're surrounded by some of the
prettiest scenery east of the Mississippi and we've got plenty of
things to do all year round.
While we like to consider ourselves to be a small town, we've got
the modern conveniences of larger cities. Our public schools are
technologically advanced, with computers in every classroom and
interconnected fiber optic wiring. Our industrial parks are state-of-the-art,
too, with technology-based infrastructure specifically designed
for business use.
And, while we have most of the larger shopping and restaurant chains
around town, we've got many small, family-owned stores and eateries.
These special places that have been here for generations are an
essential part of what makes Greater Hazleton unique.
Technically, Greater Hazleton is comprised of more than a dozen
municipalities located in southern Luzerne, northern Schuylkill
and northern Carbon counties. The city of Hazleton, with just under
25,000 residents, is the largest community in this region. The others
range in size from under 1,000 to more than 10,000.
This diversity provides a broad range of living options, from small-city
urban, to rural, and even to secluded woodland.
Business options are just as broad. Large, bustling and fully serviced
industrial parks, smaller industrial sites, malls, retail strips,
and commercial areas can be found in just about every corner of
Greater Hazleton.
In summary, Greater Hazleton is many things to many people.
To
the family, Greater Hazleton is a safe, clean place to raise children,
a place where modern facilities and quality education prepare them
for the future. It's a place with available housing options for
every pocketbook.
To the businessman, Greater Hazleton is an area of opportunity
with a diverse industrial base, and hard working, loyal employees.
It's a place with easy access to half of the nation's population
and half of the nation's production.
To the sportsman, Greater Hazleton is a world of outdoor recreational
opportunities ranging from hunting and fishing, to cross country
skiing and whitewater rafting, to summer recreation baseball leagues
and nightly pick-up basketball game. It's a place bustling with
top-flight sporting events like AHL hockey, minor league baseball,
and NASCAR racing.
To the artist, Greater Hazleton is a broad canvas upon which to
work, with museums, art leagues, theater troupes, and music groups
lifting our spirits and broadening our minds.
To the shopper, Greater Hazleton is a place of diverse stores, plentiful
bargains, the convenience and selection of some of the nation's
largest retailers, and the personalized attention of solid family-run
small businesses.
To the visitor, Greater Hazleton is a rich cultural, religious,
and ethnic tapestry that provides a solid basis for a strong, vital
community.
And to us, Greater Hazleton is home, a place in which we are proud
to live, work, play, and share with others.
So take a few minutes and look around this website. We tried to
be as thorough as possible, but, frankly, there's no way we could
capture everything Greater Hazleton has to offer.
